Parenting Without a Manual

With Mother’s Day fast approaching it has me reflecting on my journey as a parent. I have noticed that it seems everyone tries to do the very best for their children even though they don’t come with any owner’s manuals. Don’t get me wrong there are many helpful books out there to help you with your journey but in the end it’s up to you. I know personally I try to be mindful to not pass down some of my negative personality traits like; obsessive cleaning, a bit of a temper, or my irritating attempt for perfectionism.
When my daughter is a grown women and is asked to describe herself I will know we did a good job if she uses any of these words; courage, strength, independence, self-worth, forgiveness, and love.
If I could give my daughter any tips in life below would be my top ten: (in no particular order)
  1. Have the courage to always be yourself
  2. Love yourself the most
  3. Know how to take care of yourself before you ever let someone else take care of you
  4. Listen carefully to your heart and trust it
  5. Know that you are beautiful but let your brains do the work
  6. Forgive yourself because nobody is perfect
  7. Show gratitude for everything
  8. Trust in God
  9. Try not to judge other people you never know what their struggles may be
  10. Be kind to animals
Note to Chloe: With all this being said you should know you are the light of life, my miracle, and I enjoy every day watching you grow. Being your mother has made me want to be the best person I can be. Thank you for that gift.
