Last week I had two experiences of getting lost in my new
city. I have been trying not to use my GPS as much to try and get accustomed to
knowing where I am by sight. The first time I got lost I was with my daughter
and we were on a mission to find target. I had an idea where it was so after
getting to the area I “thought” it was and realizing I still didn’t exactly
know where I was here is the conversation my three year old started from the
backseat!
Her: Mommy I have an idea!
Me: What’s that?
Her: You should just call Daddy and ask him.
Me: No way, we can find target I know we can
Her: (Spotting a homeless person pushing a target cart) She
shouts, “Look Mommy that lady found Target.”
Me: Yes that means we must me close.
We eventually find it and as we pull in the parking lot my daughter says with a smile,” I
knew you could do it mommy.” I love having that little supporter in the
backseat. It’s like we are on an adventure every time we get in the car. She is the best! We are finding our way through this big city together.
The second experience was less than adorable. It was more
like a nightmare. I go to a local doctors office and end up parking 3 ½ blocks
away at only an hour meter since that’s all I could find. My doctor ends up being
45 minutes late, and I tell the receptionist that I need to go and add more money to the meter. I walk to my car and put the money in the meter but it’s not excepting
it. Dang it! It must be broken and now I have to move my car. I start driving
around looking for another spot and nothing. It’s been 20 minutes by now and I am
further and further from where I need to be, and I am pretty sure I'm lost again. At this point I am really close to losing it, and scratching this appointment all together but finally I find a
spot 6 blocks away and park. I get back to my doctors office and they say,” She is
still running behind but will be with you shortly.”
This town is testing my strengths but it will not win. I may
get lost, people may be rude at times, but I like it here. It’s new, it’s different, and
it’s a challenge that I am up for.
